Ancient Egyptians used to believe in many Egyptian Gods and Goddesses. The number totaled over 700 which absolutely blows my mind. Even though Egyptians followed some many Gods and Goddesses, they did recognize the difficulty of following that many. What they did to make it easier was to organize the Gods into groups of a family. What we ended up with was a community(or town) that worshiped only a few Gods or Gods that all represented a specific animal, like a cat. Other communities would worship something else.
Typically less known Gods were worshiped not at churches or public buildings, but in their home. They usually made a shrine to do their spiritual duties in their own home. Typically the general population didn’t accept them, then you’d have to do it at home.
Usually there were different Gods for different areas. There was also national Gods that were accepted by all in Egypt. Usually these national Gods were referenced to pharaohs. This is all a pretty nice breakdown for Egyptian Gods and Goddesses.
