I thought I should make an offtopic post on Pentax digital cameras because they are pretty unique and I have to say that I’m enjoying my W90. well this is the type of camera that is designed completely for the person that is looking for adventures. It has all these built in features that really make it the rugged camera. It is waterproof, so you can take it snorkling while on vacation. It is shock resistant, which means you can drop it on the ground and it won’t break. Lastly, you can use it in cold climates without it freezing up and not functioning. Now that I got your attention, I’m talking about the Pentax Optio Waterproof Digital Camera and I think you’ll really like this camera.

A big thing I like about this Pentax digital camera is the fact that it is 12.1 megapixels, which is top of the line when you consider digital cameras today. When you take a photograph with it, you know that is going to be a massive resolution and the quality is going to be insane. I mean it is top of the line for image quality. The secondary benefit is that they have video recording in the camera too. You can actually record video at 720p High Definition. That’s right. High definition video on a simple digital camera. It’s really amazing.

You may want to take the time to read the Pentax Optio Waterproof Digital Camera Review because it will help you understand all the important features that make up this Amazing camera. I thought I should tell you about this. It might not seem like it is related to Egyptian Gods and Goddesses, but most people have cameras these days and having a good one is nice.

That’s right, there are 114 Egyptian Gods and Goddesses out there that Egyptians have believed in. That’s a lot by any standard and makes for a lot of confusion. But don’t fret, I found a good on the subject that really helped me get it all the information together, rather than reading 1000s of lines of text online.

The Complete Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt

This book has to be the best resource on all the gods and goddesses of Egypt. It’s just jam packed full of all the information. Easy to read with nice large font and some what entertaining. It does a great job of breaking down the gods from “fairies” to “spirits”. It’s amazing system of belief to follow and learn about.

The hardest thing about the whole process of learning about Egyptian Gods and Goddesses is the shear diversity of the Gods. They’re all different and that makes it tough. But this book will make it easy.

Ancient Egyptians used to believe in many Egyptian Gods and Goddesses. The number totaled over 700 which absolutely blows my mind. Even though Egyptians followed some many Gods and Goddesses, they did recognize the difficulty of following that many. What they did to make it easier was to organize the Gods into groups of a family. What we ended up with was a community(or town) that worshiped only a few Gods or Gods that all represented a specific animal, like a cat. Other communities would worship something else.

Typically less known Gods were worshiped not at churches or public buildings, but in their home. They usually made a shrine to do their spiritual duties in their own home. Typically the general population didn’t accept them, then you’d have to do it at home.

Usually there were different Gods for different areas. There was also national Gods that were accepted by all in Egypt. Usually these national Gods were referenced to pharaohs. This is all a pretty nice breakdown for Egyptian Gods and Goddesses.

This particular goddess represented protection and cats. Her name means “female devourer”. She was seen as a protector of lower Egypt and viewed as lion. Lower Egypt since it was in a war with upper Egypt. She was originally the goddess of the sun, but the Greeks eventually changed her to the goddess of the Moon, but I’m digressing.

The view of Bast as a lion and defender of Lower Egypt changed after Lower Egypt’s loss in the war with Upper Egypt changed to that of a domestic cat. Since the new image of a domestic cat came about, Bast was viewed as a protector of their offspring and as a good mother. A lot of Egyptian women that wanted children would wear an amulet with the goddess with kittens, to represent children.

That basically describes the Egyptian Gods and Goddesses that were cats. Click here for a more in depth look into ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses.
